@avronr @purism It's less about centralization and actually more about convenience. Signal has a much better interface and is easier to understand for people coming from something like WhatsApp. While I understand your concerns, we really can't do much about it until apps like Element becomes as easy to use.
@avronr Isn't XMPP slightly outdated? Besides, while I agree that we need to 'invest' in these platforms, we can't really expect others to do the same at the expense of their productivity.

Why do you think XMPP is outdated? Also tons of free software projects that have both tech people and non tech people are run using just IRC and mailing lists. So I don't buy the whole productivity argument.

Firstly XMPP is way better. There very mature clients available that are drop in replacements for something like WhatsApp.
Secondly if we want them to grow we need to be ready to invest in them. Otherwise we're just spectators.
