I’m thinking of you

What words do you write to those in a war zone? Do you ask them how they are? Do you wish them luck? Do you try to cheer them up by telling them that they have your support? Do you share news from your side of the propaganda-trench with them? Do you write to them at all? After all, they probably have more pressing things on their minds then answering your mails. At least that’s what’s holding me personally back from hitting the send-button on some mails I already composed. I don’t want to impose on them in these times where their safety is the most important thing. Still I want them to know that I think of them and from the bottom of my heart I wish that this conflict will end soon without causing any more unnecessary loss of life. I wish that it ends in favor of the Ukrainian people. Our society should have evolved at this point. We should live in a world where politics are a detail. No one man or woman should have the power to bring misery over millions over night. Political disputes should no longer be decided by military power. The leaders of countries should be able to agree or disagree, all while the people can go on with their normal lives. It is scary that suddenly there is war again in parts of Europe. I’m typing these words conscious of the fact that I am a spoiled European, lucky enough to live a life in peace and relative wealth, all while people in other countries have spent most parts of their life in hunger or constant fear of getting bombed. Realizing that this time my reaction is different than if the war was far, far away from me makes me sad. I don’t know how to end this post. Stop the war. Stop all wars. We are one. We are human. Peace.
