I'm kinda irked that nobody gives credit to http://calagator.org/ for having been an open source alternative to Meetup for more than a decade already
@orangeTsar Uhhh...

@scottishwobbly Actually that's not absolutely correct. To carry a mug from one place to another, the body expends energy; the body gets its energy from food; food costs money. So there will be some financial cost, perhaps a small fraction of a penny but still non-zero.
@rick_777 IS IT WHAT?! I MUST KNOW!

Uhhh.. wut?
@tek OK, so to rephrase the question: why do you expect that a replacement would not be grossly negligent? :-) Have you looked around at the world lately? Have you considered the possibility that PG&E is the best that humans in that area of the planet are able to achieve?
@tek OK but the question I'm asking is: how do you know that some other organisation wouldn't also neglect the power lines if they took over from PG&E? How do you know the problem is specific to PG&E and that there isn't some inherent problem in the region and the economics of delivering power there? Like for example some part of the grid which is abnormally costly to maintain and prevents adequate investment elsewhere.
@tek How do you know the problems are solely due to PG&E and that there aren't problems specific to that region which a non-PG&E organisation would also encounter?
@sir You can. You shouldn't but you can. In general, humans are not rational and will listen to idiots.
@sir I see your posts in reverse order, interleaved with other posts. Context is never clear unless the posts are reply chains.
In case you're not aware, those who don't follow you will only see posts which are boosted by people they do follow. Perhaps that is where the confusion comes from.
Also, instance blocks make distribution interesting. A lot of the fediverse doesn't happen for me and I see threads with replies that make no sense because the messages they reply to are missing.
@emacsomancer @sir Most, even.
@tek Assuming PG&E were nationalised, do you have reason to expect that the grid would have fewer problems?
@clacke That reference does not do. I can find evidence on that website, after having to find it, supporting only one of the complaints you raised. Can I suggest that you take the time to lay out your complaints clearly, in depth and with supporting references? Possibly using a medium that isn't bound by character limits and doesn't engender low signal-to-noise ratios? Your complaints might then be less likely to be dismissed as jumping on the bandwagon of irrational appeals to outrage. (2/2)
@clacke You're still not communicating well. You haven't responded to the specific questions I asked and instead have just presented a list of note-form complaints. Presumably you expect your readers to go off and convince themselves that what you say isn't nonsense rather than you putting in the effort to communicate properly and intelligently. (1/2)
