@liw Indeed. A perfectly valid reason. But just to clarify, there's no comparison yet?
@liw I'm sorry if you've covered this somewhere (your blog has a lot of old obnam articles dated 2020), but what sets obnam apart from borg and restic? what's the reason for it existing instead of improving something else that's close?
Last Sunday the UK/US/CA/AU/NZ/IN/JP govts issued a statement asking tech companies to add backdoors into E2E encryption. This is a big deal: unfortunately *backdoors do not work*. @tripofmice some ideas that might help: use shellcheck, don't use bash, use bash scripting more, e.g. in one-liners during interactive use
Can we please, please – PLEASE! not make the nonsensical US date format month/day/year the default in applications? 🤦♂️
PRE 👏 TTY 👏 PLEASE
And to all users of that format: it makes no sense, it's counter-intuitive, it makes collaboration frustrating, it introduces inconsistencies and errors... Just stop. Please. Use international standards.
(And don't get me started on your other units of weights, volumes and distances. Bloody hell.)
Boost if I'm right.

Did you know that #GDPR allows sites not to announce the use of "essential" cookies? Meaning those your site uses for itself, to keep the user logged in for example.
So when Internet commerce started to slap those stupid "we use cookies" banners on every site they used the more generic word "cookies" to avoid saying outright that their sites use *ad trackers*.
Long story short, if you don't sell your user data, you don't have to present stupid disclaimers.
@sir ISO8601 and get rid of DST. DST is useless, even harmful, unlike timezones.
