🔩 Scheduled Maintenance🔩

Tomorrow morning (as early as muppeth gets up and arrives at the datacenter), we will be adding more RAM to our main server. This means of course that the server will have to be powered down for the duration of the operation. Since we will be present physically in the datacetner, it's wise to upgrade all servers and restart them as well. Therefore expect some downtime around midday CET.

The downtime should not take longer then 45minutes.

@disroot so finally enough for mastodon? synapse? nextcloud? jitsi?

@ptman HI,
Not entirely sure what you mean by that, specially that we dont host mastodon.

@disroot A bit tongue-in-cheek, sorry. What uses the most resources and what will that new capacity allow? I'm not much for just bigger numbers.

@ptman Well the server we upgraded run out of RAM which means bigger disk IO which had become a bottleneck. This server in particular was hosting mainly nextcloud, email and xmpp. So adding more RAM allows for bigger caching, adding more resources to specially email which is eating more and more. and generally lowering the swap usage which in turn lowers disk IO and cpu load.
