Good on India for banning Tik Tok tbh.

Every time I've tried using Tik Tok it's blatantly obvious that it's designed solely for brainless consumption and instant gratification. Even more so than traditional social media (which is also a similar mess)
But more than anything it's an app that tries to consume your personal data and activities only to try and push you to consume more.

The whole internet is a clusterfuck tbh. But social media is the worst.

It's like a machine that just dispenses infinite sugar whenever you want it.

But nobody realizes it's plugged into your brain and scanning your thoughts, so when you start getting tired of sugar, whether you've realized it yourself or not, it starts dispensing cocaine instead, then caffeine and like that it just keeps going forever. Calculating what you want and give it to you for "free"

People will keep pulling the lever for their instant gratification as they don't realize, or conveniently ignore, that the machine is doing this only to silently sneak in subliminal messages to your brain and creating addictions

And out of all social media I've seen, Tik Tok is the best example of a social media network that blatantly tries to use people as mere cogs in the machine.

@quad Did you know that designer of social media apps admitted that they designed them to be addictive and that Silicone Valley billionaires rather raise their children like Waldorf students than giving them access to their products?
@maxmustermann no I don't really know what billionaires keep saying. but it makes perfect sense to me that anyone who knows how traditional social media works would try to keep people as far as fuck away from them as they can
@quad Another tidbit: One of the site effects of being on feddi is you notice how nobody engages as heavily as on any other social media platform. That's because most Fediapps don't feed you with endless content. You really have to work your ass off to get that traditional Social Media experience.
@maxmustermann You can see many instances trying to get this "traditional social media experience". Mostly in the form of instances with heavily filtered timelines.

There's nothing wrong with filtering out actual abuse. But many admins will filter out a ton of content they disagree with under the excuse that "it's abuse". Whether they realize it or not, it's likely because they are trying to create the same instant gratification environment as other social media. You log on and you'll only see people that agree with you or push you forwards, even if you're facing a stupid direction.
@quad That's not the traditional experience, that's a side effect from their cowardice and paranoid use of shared block lists.

Its not even new: I have heard stories about autistic Sonic Forums were people got beef with each other over who can marry what made up critter.
@maxmustermann It's definitely not new. The desire to fit in and get instant gratification for your views and beliefs have always existed. Even if you don't hold those beliefs many will just "go with the flow".

It's probably how Nazi germany happened in the first place. One guy (Hitler) has good charisma and shit can hit the fan.

So ironically, these people who censor everything they dislike seem a lot more like Nazis than the ones they keep calling Nazis

@quad @maxmustermann
10 years ago, to the dismay of historians, most people I knew understood "fascism" to mean "forcing your opinions and preferences onto others".

I wish we hadn't lost that meaning.
