I have found two "new" DEs that I absolutely adore and appreciate.
They are FVWM and JWM!

FVWM is quite complex and extremely flexible with regards to configuration.

JWM has sane defaults but is extremely lightweight with limited flexibility, but still enough to make it fun and easy to configure, thanks to xml.

@ferds is included in Slackware, but I've never tried it. It is sort of my style of WM. πŸ˜ƒπŸ˜ƒ I will try it now that you mention it. To be honest I never really looked into it.

@poetgrant Nice! Yeah, give it a go. It's really elegant once you get used to it, especially the config.
Email me if you want my config. Also, I am still figuring out the theming part, but the autostart and keybindings I have sorted for now :D
Also, make sure xterm is installed before launching the DE
