We need to decentralize the police!
Yay, let's start a movement.
@ghost_bird there needs to be something to help regulate the offenses of one human against another.
If we continue to call it 'police' the public will be able to accept it easier'
@poetgrant On the other hand, if we don’t call it ‘police’ then we can avoid perpetuating all the baggage that goes with the existing system. What if the police were the militant wing of social services instead of the thin blue line that protects decent people’s property, say?
@poetgrant (Or we could do even better than that of course, but the anarchist arguments for police abolition are easy to find if you’re interested.)
@ghost_bird oh yes, I have been involved with an anarchist group looking for a sustainable alternative to the police. A lot of the alternatives break down when actually put to the test, so a sustainable alternative would be preferable.
@poetgrant Anyone who’s been involved with anarchism will agree anarchy is difficult and anarchists don’t make it any easier, I think ;-)
@ghost_bird oh that's true... very true. It's like being a Linux user... hehehe but yes, it is an eternal struggle for me, minarchism vs anarchism
@poetgrant Minarchism seems distinctly worst-of-both worlds to me: we had it in the UK for a century or so and the effects weren’t good.
@ghost_bird that is one of the biggest problems. I can identify all of the faults of every system, but I have a hard time figuring out which one has more benefits to fault ratio.
@poetgrant “Abolish”, surely?
