I get bored extremely quickly when listening to podcasts, yet I can listen to (not watch) hours of video essays without getting bored, and I think I may have understood why.

They have picture I can look at for a few seconds from time to time, that multiplies the source of stimuli and helps me stay engaged.

But more importantly, videos can use pictures to convey their identity, to set the ambience, etc. Podcasts, on the other hand, have to rely on jingles, ambiant music, etc., and these bore me out extremely quickly, they are moments of void that lets my brain move to other spaces, and I stop listening without even noticing.
