Did you know that in #IFC all extruded solids are defined as 2D profiles in the XY plane extruded in the +Z axis? Axis conventions are critical in #OpenBIM standards because they make geometric analysis much easier. All beams, columns, and slabs should be extruded along the +Z axis.
The extrusion vector may be sloped but never perpendicular to the Z axis.
@thinkMoult interesting, so how then is a beam defined that just 'is' perpendicular? Don't you have that all the time?
