@danielhanley Yes that seems right.
@mmasnick Does bluesky interoperate with Twitter? My understanding from the very beginning was that bluesky was supposed to propose a protocol that twitter itself would then adopt. but from my reading I have no sense of whether that is still going to be the case. If so seems like then AT would win over AP.
@danielhanley A lot of people would be upset if mastodon raised venture funds. Isn't diversity of business models in social desirable anyway? Also, there is nothing stopping someone else for building a different app using the same ActivityPub protocol with venture backing. In fact, I would love to see that. But Mastodon funders can do what they want with their app, and I think they have been making great decisions.
@calebccff Amazing work!
First thoughts on Bluesky: y u no PWA?
Like, Elk can manage it. Pinafore managed it. Mainline Mastodon managed it! If the goal is decentralisation, why would you put app store gatekeepers in charge?
And if funds are not infinite, why wouldn't you centralise effort on the web, particularly now that iOS Push is out?
Today I learned the word ‘scientist’ was coined in 1834 to describe Mary Somerville, replacing the term ‘man of science’.

I'm not arguing w the fact that AI poses risks. I AM ceaselessly annoyed by the pattern
This is not new or novel. It was women -
@timnitGebru, @mmitchell_ai, me, et al - who rang the AI alarm years ago & were retaliated against, pushed out for doing so.

🚨 Want to help build a robust bridge and relays between #ActivityPub & #ATprotocol networks? (
Live only for a few hours - we launched this group late last night - it already has over 26 developers/followers starting to do exactly that.
If you are working on this, or want to, go follow that mastodon-compatible Frendica group & introduce yourself!
There is probably something better than a fresh #croissant with jam for brekky, just can’t think what it may be.
@atomicpoet Is there any chance bluesky adopts AP compatibility or mastodon adopts AT compatibility?
I used to use Friendica and one cool thing is that it speaks many languages, including AP and OStatus.

I Ruined My #Medium Earnings Moving From #Twitter to #Mastodon
Here’s why I have no regrets and would do it all over again @medium.

@ben_golub Bluesky is built on the AT Protocol, which is different from ActivityPub. From news a few months ago, I understood that AT protocol would inter operate with Twitter, but not with ActivityPub. It’s possible they add such features later but unclear to me as of now that they will.

I just want to remind everyone that Mastodon has a public #roadmap:
https://joinmastodon.org/roadmap
It lists features in four categories:
1. In Progress
2. Planned
3. Exploring
4. Recently completed
along with a priority (1, 2, or 3 bars).
I encourage you to check it out and see if a favorite feature is there. To give one example, I still see people talking about how Mastodon is against quote posts, when that feature is in “Planned” and has 3 bars (highest priority).

This is first on Mastodon! Please boost this thread. It’s an important one.
Good morning to readers. Kyiv remains in Ukrainian hands.
Some career news: I’m leaving NPR as part of the layoffs that dramatically reduced the company’s workforce.
I’ve decided to go back into Ukraine to keep reporting.
But this time, alone.
After 15 years of being a loyal Twitter user, it’s become less and less useful and enjoyable for me. I’m gonna shut down my account for a few weeks and see what it feels like. I’m going to keep posting on Mastodon and on Substack tho http://tinyurl.com/DDsubstck (and you can also find my work the old way: going to The Washington Post!)
