@danielhanley A lot of people would be upset if mastodon raised venture funds. Isn't diversity of business models in social desirable anyway? Also, there is nothing stopping someone else for building a different app using the same ActivityPub protocol with venture backing. In fact, I would love to see that. But Mastodon funders can do what they want with their app, and I think they have been making great decisions.

@mpanhans I agree. I like the course of action that Mastodon has taken. What the article details and what I agree with is that there is a “price” to pay for this decision, which is not fully capitalizing on the moment where the desire for an alternative to Twitter is clearly in the air. I want Mastodon to succeed. I hope more users continue to come here.
