Now that AppCenter is starting to show Flatpak sandbox holes on app info pages, I’m feeling more confident about not having to mark when an app isn’t from the AppCenter remote. So, I’m thinking that the onboarding experience for AppCenter should now be more like the Mastodon one where we say “Here’s the default app store, or choose from a list of known stores”. Trying to strike a balance here where we’re not feeding into an a single app store monopoly but also making it easy to use alt stores

@danirabbit It depends on what you view as the future of AppCenter. If people can choose AppCenter *or* Flathub, I think many will chose Flathub, and the incentives to develop apps for AppCenter will fall.

A difference with mastodon is there each user selects exactly one server. But in your case, a user could use one or multiple app repos. One of the things I just love vs other distro's is how few choices there are to make. I'm one that think the current approach balances that well.
