Regarding the Flatpak issue in Ubuntu flavors, we want to reassure you that these are only the official flavors and that we have no intention of adopting Snap as a replacement for Flatpak or remove Flatpak at all. Nothing will change.

@carlwgeorge Thanks for the solid take. I've wanted to use a RHEL enterprise system for a while and gave CentOS a good go a while back, but I just can't do Gnome really, it's not bad but I just love KDE so much more. I daily drove Fedora KDE for a couple years back in the F20-23 days and loved it! May give it another shot! The short update cycle really was a problem though and I even had to reinstall from scratch do to a failed update between version numbers. I'm sure it's gotten better though!

@LinuxClaude@fosstodon.org For me, I completely understand why someone wouldn't have an issue here. It's more than just this, it's some other decisions and directions Ubuntu is going as well. Like Ubuntu Pro. Plus, I was a full-time Fedora KDE user for a LONG time. I loved it! I switched to Kubuntu for the software ease of use and LTS, but with everything going to universal installers and having options like AlmaLinux for LTS, I see little reason to stay. So, just view my statement as a Fedora fan fanboy😂

@LinuxClaude@fosstodon.org It's more of a statement than anything. Why would they remove functionality that's already there, especially when it's so popular and used.

After Flatpak, another major project has undergone a visual refresh -- Flathub. It gets a little more than a coat of fresh paint very soon. Thank you everyone involved!

removing Flatpak is the last straw. It's a continuing trend in the wrong direction. I'm going to research switching my company's whole fleet to or when the upgrades start happening. Such a shame! Ubuntu has been good for so long. Also made Nvidia drivers SO easy to install. Any tips for Nvidia installation on Fedora appreciated!

Oh what a terrible decision.
Canonical will prevent Ubuntu flavors to come with Flatpak preinstalled, as they want to push snaps.

Kind of a Microsoft-like move here. Really bad.

Make everything USB-C. Don't care if it's a little confusing what type of C you have. Just make them all C.

There is a CIA booth at SXSW, just in case you're wondering how that event is now.

This is dumb. Getting very tired of a lot of Ubuntu's decisions lately. I'm going to be giving Fedora KDE another shot before too long now. Great writeup by @omgubuntu though!

@omgubuntu Kubuntu specifically. But I install everything I can as a Flatpak

Got a minute?

I'd love to know how many of you use #Flatpak apps on Ubuntu (or any Ubuntu flavors).

As #Linux users, or even as #Windows users, we often hear a lot of preconceived notions, like "Linux is faster", or "Windows has better battery life".

Well, I decided to quantify all of it in a complete benchmark between Windows 11 and #ubuntu

CPU and GPU benchmarks, disk speeds, thermals, internet speeds, gaming benchmarks, battery life, I looked at everything on the same device, and the conclusions were... surprising:

@gardiner_bryant @notnomiSylimE I just don't think you'll ever be able to beat the original universe. The stories and characters are truly well thought out and the design is unparalleled.
