I watched Star Wars episodes 1 to 6, plus the Obi Wan series with my girlfriend. She had never watched any Star Wars movie, didn’t know anything about the story apart from « I am your father », and it was so cool to see her react to it!
Seeing her shocked by who Leia is in relation to Luke, Vader turning on the emperor, realizing that a little kid will turn into Darth Vader, or the final battle between him and Obi Wan, it was awesome, and made me relive the movies like I was a kid again.
Then watching Obi Wan after episodes 1 to 3, to see that final fight replay, she almost cried when Vader tells Obi Wan Anakin is dead now.
Star Wars is really the ultimate fantasy / sci-fi story. We might have become jaded with little stupid details and small retcons, but someone new coming to the story will be as amazed as we were as kids.
Of course we will watch episodes 7 to 9, so she can make up her own mind. I’ll just grit my teeth and suffer through 😒
