random nerd tip of the day. The broadway backend (broadwayd in the libgtk-3-bin package) allows you to ran a GTK app in a (remote) browser:

broadwayd&
GDK_BACKEND=broadway gedit

and admire gedit with http://PINEPHONE:8080

WAs crashing Guix FOSDEM fringe earlier and gotta say at the design level, Big Blue Button works better for asymetric meetings (like ones with a host online lectures) than most video conferencing I've been experiencing so far, free or proprietary.

Yes I'm easily distracted to notice that, expecially when the topic is something I can barely grasp.

Oh they did leave eventually, just a little later than others.

Among all rooms I was in, somehow people in D.perl and D.declarative.minimalistic just refuses to leave after the conference. Guess I'll stick around to find out why (-;

RT @garrett@twitter.com

#FOSDEM scales a lot better when it's remote & allows so many more people to attend who otherwise couldn't make it.

(For so many reasons too: location, travel cost, accessibility issues of the venue, family, etc.)

Any chance future @FOSDEM@twitter.com might become hybrid in-person/online? twitter.com/opensrcdesign/stat

I just heard this definition at #fosdem, and I think it's about perfect:

> type inference: when you don't have to type the types of the types.

(if Ambrose Bierce cat been a programmer, that's how he would have put it...)

Why do I spend most of my time at hanging with and people despite having not touching it for at least over a year (-;

I should have learned Zig *before* crashing a Zig

"Masks and vaults: how anonymity overshadows real online privacy"

My latest opinion article projects my concerns about the fundamentally different concepts of privacy and anonymity being used interchangeably in many contexts. Slightly longer and more intense read than usual, but in the hope you will find it helpful.

TIL that usb a-a cable is used to power stuffs and apparently i was able to power things through it that you're not supposed to do:

- my router (somewhat)
- a tv box
- a bt speaker (it actually bypassed the on/off switch)

wondering what else i can power... 🤔

One of the biggest benefit of participating in '20 for me was to get to know the people. They are still those I look up to for their way of raising problems in the most respecting way possible: discuss.python.org/t/nobody-is

For those who can read German here is what I am talking about. It's a law that to my knowledge currently the European conservative coalition will push for and that will force providers of encrypted chatting services to generate two keys. One for the receiver and one for law enforcement and everyone who the Police thinks posted something "hateful" could be effected. There is the hope for E-Privacy but it's blocked for multiple years by now so who knows when we will get it.

When you think a feature will be build out and massively benefit the mobile Linux community and then you read this shit. I am just disappointed in Mozilla and not happy about a ton of things they do lately (The last two years basically) :/
