@cassidyjames the House passed its own version with "nearly 50 Republican votes" and all the Democrats voting for it. Remember this is the lake duck season where the Dems still control the House. Majority Leader Hoyer expects them to take up the bill next week. It should pass and be signed before the holidays.

Today America took a step forward in recognizing and protecting the rights of the LGBT community. We still have a long way to go as a country to recognize everyone's basic rights but this is a positive step forward. It was only 7 years ago that SCOTUS ruled in Obergefell v Hodges in a 5-4 decision.

Going forward I think I'll be trying to limit myself to favoriting the types of posts that I agree with instead of boosting them. That's an acknowledgement that doesn't spread them further which feels appropriate to me. My goal here is to be more conscious about what I am promoting here in the #mastosphere.

One exception that I expect to make for this: support for marginalized communities. Human dignity should not be negotiable and neither should our support.

I saw a post from the other day that I can't get out of my head. It was a request to stop boosting vague platitudes into their feed (you know the type, "boost if X", "billionaires are policy failures" etc). Originally I thought this was a silly attitude, but lately I've been thinking about the way in which the posts are often a form of digital grandstanding and often a way of racking up interactions on algorithmic social media. This action is a vestige of other environs we've been trained on.

@Aloof if I'm not mistaken that will apply to everything though and there are a few apps where I do want that functionality

@seldo I'm sure there's probably a few legitimate reasons why you might need to go "app only" in 2022 when the line between web app and native app becomes increasingly blurry, but blogging is not one of those reasons.

As a part of disconnecting from Twitter I deleted the app from my phone (something I honestly should have done ages ago). But now I realize that apparently every Twitter link I get seems to be creating cyclical links back to the play store to download Twitter to see the tweet! Interestingly enough though this only seems to happen on Firefox because one time I pasted the link into Chrome and it worked fine. Maybe I have some settings in FF that are causing this?
