@killyourfm oooo I like that phrase "virtual living room". Feels like a nice way to describe how we should want our socials to be 😀
@mekkaokereke on my instance there are no local and federated timeliness so home is all there is. I see no problem with using Mastodon this way 🤷♂️
@DanNess I mean there's no "eggs" here just faceless elephants which is the equivalent. I only posted when I noticed a few like that following me. Which is totally different than just someone who hasn't gotten around to filling out an account yet.
@MALPI yes that was exactly what I had said about #kubernetes. If we aren't managing it feels wrong to call us a platform team. It's a large product so there's a bunch of teams all doing their own thing. We're like the "meta" product team.
There are no SREs embedded with us but organizationally were with the SREs not the other product teams (I think). So we get a lot of crossover work with them just to keep things confusing 😁
@Witchwithcats @MattTheQuick just curiosity on my part. See the first post before the poll for a bit more context on the question.
I’m looking to follow more #blacktwitter #blackmastodon #blackvoices peeps here. I’m wanting to fully migrate from the bird app and I’m looking forward to curating a good feed over here.
Now I can see how we got here from a UX perspective: the founding principle of the internet (decentralization) was/is a nice idea, but in practice, we couldn't expect the general public to code and maintain their own websites. CLI, HTML, and CSS were confusing and evolving, and we couldn’t expect normal people to follow along.
It’s #TransgenderAwarenessWeek, so here’s your reminder that much of the open source software you love was made with the help of transgender people—including elementary OS! Shoutouts to all the trans folks in our community 🏳️⚧️
@purism are there any plans to upgrade this server now that Mastodon v4 is out? I'm trying to decide if I should stay here or move to a different server
In honor of Transgender Awareness Week, we recognize our transgender contributors and we stand with all transgender people.
#TransgenderAwarenessWeek runs Nov 13 - 19, leading up to Transgender Day of Remembrance on Nov 20.
Carnegie Mellon's open source programs office is hiring a community manager. This is an exciting opportunity to help build a new model for community engagement at universities: https://cmu.wd5.myworkdayjobs.com/en-US/CMU/job/Program-Manager--Open-Source-Programs-Office_2018917
The new Web Weekly is out.🙈
This time you'll learn about:
✅ Forgiving CSS selectors
✅ How to "manage up"
✅ A new "Flash of" acronym (FART) 💨
✅ aria-label and why it can be considered a code smell
➕ Github repos, TIL posts & some music.
Enjoy!😊
@marcus_thesmith so far the only clear line that I can really articulate is that we don't touch anything after the BFF (Backend for FrontEnd). I guess thinking about it we're responsible for all the public resources that users interact with.
We are not "really" responsible for the hosting or deployment per se but we do manage those build processes that create the deployed artifacts.
@MALPI we think in JavaScript not Go 😉
We have a separate SRE team who manages K8s and does all of the things that are traditionally associated with SRE work.
