@mmasnick great look back at what was probably the most important part of Twitter's maturation (creating specific policies in place of one-off decision-making) and why Twitter as a free speech company mattered.

One thing that GitLab seems to be missing that GitHub has is the ability to see how many files you've reviewed (n of X files viewed) in a merge request ๐Ÿ˜ž

Found this toot again now after changing jobs. Very disappointed to say I'm at a React shop instead of working with but no job is perfect ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

That said I am very much in the job position of making developer work go faster ๐Ÿ”ฅ

@alexpghayes IIRC Fediverse doesn't do "quote"-ing b/c it tends to lead to dunking and doesn't actually foster discussion as much. This is the closes that you get (linking to the "quote")

FWIW I'm on Librem's branded social services because I want to know that I'm paying someone to host my account (and I wasn't on Patreon when I set this account up). It's definitely a smaller server so I don't see many issues here. That said if anyone knows of a Philly/PA based local instance that is being run I would be interested and might migrate there (willing to chip in $ too!)

Hugops for @Gargron and the team with all the new users signing up!

Let's be a part of building this community out. If you find someone interesting boost them (even if you normally aren't the type of person that 'boosts') It'll help us find a community easier.

What mastodon needs right now is network size, let's work to build it.

@Schykle@mastodon.social I just hope they buyout results in more "cool people" on here. ๐Ÿคท

Little advice from an open source maintainer.
If you as a user or community member want your voice to be heard, try to format your message in a polite, direct, and short way. Even if the topic is very large, try to engage in a fluid conversation by discussing fewer points. Writing massively long messages might cause the opposite effect, where the maintainer feels overwhelmed, your most important points get buried, and the conversation ends up dying due the too broad topics.
Less is more.

@zkat I think we in the OSS community need to do a better job at finding and funding those companies that occupy this middle space.

@Kevbeau68@mastodon.social @Mastodon tried logging in to Pixelfed from the client and it seems to also redirect to linux.pizza for the login. Is that expected?

Hmmm I wanted to try the official @Mastodon app for Android but the login seems to be redirecting me to an instance. Not sure if there's another way to log in ๐Ÿค”

I can sort of see why people get annoyed with Spotify, it definitely gets into a rut with playing the same bands repeatedly. I'm pretty sure I've heard the same song three times from different albums on this playlist.

Just unboxed and set up my new monitor from work. I didn't appreciate how big a 4K curved monitor would be! The packaging that the whole thing came in was bigger than my daughter ๐Ÿ˜ณ

@benpocalypse one of the things I find so strange about the GTK stack is that there doesn't seem to be a separation for the UI layer. It's all just one thing! There's a reason why websites have abandoned XML for their view layers.

@cassidyjames yeah I think if I'm going to end up purchasing something for a new personal device (the reason for the search) I might just go right back to another Thinkpad. Just torn if I want cheap or something developer grade

@cassidyjames looking at all the offerings most vendors seem to just not be focusing on this feature and want to compete elsewhere (ports and extensibility). Still if almost no one is doing it then some company is missing an opportunity!

@cassidyjames I really love the 14" form factor of my Lenovo Thinkpad but was looking to see if there's anything like it specifically built for Linux. I was looking at Slim, Star, and Laptops w/Linux since they all fund elementary but could find anything specific. I found a 3K one from Slim (I think it was them) but the DPI didn't seem quite right
