@Lizburton @mekkaokereke that's the "systemic" part of systemic racism. Tactics to suppress Black votes specifically, also end up suppressing votes of other races.
While there will be a lot of Democratic votes suppressed, because that's the point; this will ALSO suppress some Republican votes as well.
The flip side of this is that - a minority reaching places usually taken by for the majority, does not mean the systemic issues are gone.
Sorry y'all I had to mute this. I only asked to boost bc I expected like 3 and I was hoping to amplify the poll but I guess that there's been a lot ppl wondering the same thing!
@2rista I'm a glass half full kind of person so I would say it looks like you were right about it!
There are at least two #instances dedicated to #disabled people on #mastodon now. The (more or less) German http://fedisabled.social and the English http://disabled.social
Maybe one of them can be a home for you too?
@scottishphil totally fair. I'm in that group but really my time on the internet mostly coincides with the rise of the big centralized internet sites like FB.
@mikarv yeah that was sort of what I was imagining. There seems to be a general sense of "haha we're doomed and being exploited" that pervades the younger generations so a decentralized as free experience would seem like an attractive alternative. And like you say, fandom knows no limits. But I wasn't sure I would reach those communities either 🤷♂️
@jynersolives that last option LOL
I almost made the last option "Old like dirt"
@tlsmith63 Im not *that* surprised considering a large part of the influx is academics and journalists. Not exactly groups that skew young.
@Jewishreader considering that I just make up these options on the spot I think that's pretty fair. No one is going to mistake me for a demographer!
To this extent I'm really interested to know how the age breakdown of people on the #Fediverse. On one hand it would seem to make sense to me that most people here remember the "old internet" before the centralization and they're here to rekindle that flame of independence. On the other hand the youths are generally pretty up on this whole technology thing. I grew up on the internet and since then smartphones have become even more ubiquitous.
(Please boost for reach)
