One cool feature of Btrfs subvolumes is that you can install several Linux distros on the same disk sharing both the same space and the same home directory. Just put them in two different subvolumes and mount each one as root in different boot entries. It's a great way to experiment without having to wipe your primary installation.

This works, but I wouldn't recommend sharing the same home directory, that will create a mess of the config files, potentially causing conflicts. Instead, keep your second home within the new root, and symlink the main folders/files you want to share between the distros.

@d3xt3r.bsky.social I never had any particular problems with that, most software is well behaved in that regard. I suppose one could have problems if they attempt to run very different environments (e.g. KDE in one and GNOME in the other) or very different versions of the same software.

Older version of Firefox in particular might not want to use the same profile — but nothing that can't be fixed with "--allow-downgrade" 😏
