After around two houra and some clicking through the excellent mintupgrade gui even this rather exotic 2008 Macbook Pro with an Nvidia 9400M got upgraded to Mint 21 without any issues. It still works fine like before.
Very positively surprised by Linux Mint. Very few desktop Linux installs manage to survive a version upgrade without huge problems, but Ubuntu and Mint worked every time so far
