hi @lanodan, you jus mentioned #openwrt.... i recently formulated a spray to deal with DSL modems, none of which are able to be liberated with foss firmware. :(

Aren't those Zyxel ones? When I was exploring the alternatives to replace my trusty NetGear WNDR3800 which got fried, I found out that one of the current Zyxel routers is actually among being the best supported by OpenWRT, I have already forgotten the particular model, but according to some reviews people at times prefer it to the more expensive, but also well-supported Linksys WRT3200ACM.

I the end I got lucky and found a inexpensive used WNDR3800 though — experiments and trying new things are great and all, but nothing beats just uploading your config backup and being done with it 😁

@m0xee @lanodan cant remember the exact models but they are all DSL modems and and all DSL modems require proprietary firmware, openWRT cant do fully foss modems anymore, they say it in the forum.

folks at librecmc.org put it clearly in the faq.
