“Land for peace” sounds nice, but the president of Russia isn’t fighting for land. Putin is fighting to destroy Ukraine as a nation. When the next U.S. president takes office he will therefore face the same choices : help Putin win, or help him lose.

And until then? Biden should send all of the allocated weapons, let the Ukrainians hit targets in Russia with American and European missiles, and above all pressure the Europeans, finally, to release the $300 billion in frozen Russian assets. No time to lose. Gift link, from the Atlantic:

@anneapplebaum as a European, I couldn’t agree more!! Putin winning is not a scenario anyone wants.

Ironically not even Pooteen — IMO at this point he wants the war to go on indefinitely: without justification to pump money into military-industrial complex and with devastated Ukrainian regions now on Russia's hands, the economy would immediately fall apart. Theoretically, it can recover if all sanctions get lifted, but that is very unlikely to happen — not even Trump can do that.
For him it's all-in — he's unlikely to compromise even if they hand him over the land.
