contraintuitively one button is not simpler, because increased abstraction obfuscates what it's doing. simpler is when it has a wattage and time selector and nothing else.

@kaia@brotka.st Yeah every microwave got these settings for different food types and other bullshit that automatically set time and wattage and stuff, including the famous "popcorn button" if you watch Technology Connections.

In my opinion all a microwave needs is time and wattage, nothing else.

@kaia@brotka.st My current microwave is actually a bit annoying. You can select just wattage and time, but the selectable wattage options are just 300, 600 and 900, while most recipes require 750 watt...

The microwave oven I have now is nearly perfect — that wattage wheel labeled with just roman numbers might seem a bit confusing and it actually only goes up to 800, which might be a problem for some, but I mostly use it for reheating, so I'm fine with it. Otherwise I like it very much: just two controls, both rotary and no extra buttons, especially if the "touch" kind.
