Half of music theory is just signal processing in disguise accidentally discovered by artists instead of engineers. I shit you not, having studied some basic signal processing in the uni gives me a much better insight into music.

@newt I think part of why I've struggled to get into music theory is because it sort of feels like physics but filtered through a language I don't understand that makes things feel weird and arbitrary

I own both volumes, but I've never touched the second one — I don't think it gets worse after the first, it starts with the basics, but advances quickly and covers a very broad range of topics associated with music.
