TBH I don't even remember when it was different, even in the Google.Talk days it had the dual Jabber/XMPP name already 🤷

I prefer thinking of it as Jabber being the network and XMPP being the protocol itself — same as with Fedi vs ActivityPub really. This makes "Jabber/XMPP client" or "Jabber/XMPP server" lexically correct. Not sure if this is canon though.
they already do that except instead of gibberish it's "This message was encrypted with OMEMO, but not for your device."
