@starlabssystems lights yes, being able to disable them in bios also yes

My old HP laptop allows remapping most LEDs to most other things: such as internal storage or network activity, audio input/output mute and so on — making extra LEDs extremely useful! My old MacBook Pro isn't as flexible in this regard, I suppose it depends on how well the embedded controller is supported by the Linux kernel.
@m0xee @unspeaker @starlabssystems both very solid points I completely agree to.
Would be awesome if I could modify the led state via linux.
I may have just created a lot of new work for Sean but if the people want it...
@starlabssystems @m0xee @unspeaker be careful, Sean may limit your reach if you continue putting so much on his plate. :-D
Sean doesn't know what I get up to on Mastodon... too busy writing firmware :)
Reading this and thinking a little more, letting people choose what their lights show seems the way. You may want to know the internet connection and microphone, whereas another may want a Caps lock and num lock.
I will look into this more
@starlabssystems @m0xee @Anachron @unspeaker Yes for privacy is this great! 100%

And I use the CapsLock LED to indicate the alternative layout — which is quite useful when you have to use a non-Latin one often. I don't have to use any software indicators for that.
