not-made-here syndrome is one of the most crippling conditions you can have. It's okay to stand on the shoulders of giants bro.
@binkle @RustyCrab Since OSS became embedded in EVERYTHING, I've encountered this less and less. Almost non-existent at my job now.
@PunishedD @binkle I have to work with some old timers who refuse to pull in libraries no matter how simple. They literally write their own shitty ini and json parsers because they're fucking insane
@RustyCrab @PunishedD there's a happy middleground I'd say - too far in one direction and you wind up writing everything from scratch (poorly) and it all falls apart, but too far in the other direction and everyone collectively forgets how to actually do the original thing

@binkle @PunishedD @RustyCrab
In a lot of cases it's not even about not being able to implement something, but about popular libraries attempting to do everything you might ever need and the kitchen sink, but you don't need all that, but only need something simple, which is a tiny sunset of it and you end up wasting lots of time just trying to get through all the levels of abstractions they have implemented.

And then again after having to update that library for a security fix, but some fucker of course had to change some interfaces to โ€” in order to offer you even more features you'd never use ๐Ÿ˜ฉ
