The reason risc-v is cool isn't because it's "RISC" (your laptop will have 500 instructions), It's because it means slightly less backdoored tech for the first time since POWER 9

Me too, OpenSPARC was amazing for the time when it was released — but unfortunately it didn't take off and now it's decades behind, bringing such a project up to speed would require considerable resources and I don't see anyone willing to invest into it.
In China they are doing something — but they are working on lots of things, some of them very niche and never make it into widely available products.
