Why not though? Isn't it just a subset of folklore — culture shared by a particular group of people, different groups of white people included? 🤔
BTW I doesn't seem to me that the message was that Lynyrd Skynyrd is indeed traditional folk music. The point of the joke was taking the idea that "tradition" isn't something established over centuries in this particular case to the extreme.
