@feld this is why real men browse the web with wget, downloading one file at a time and carefully inspecting the source to see what it does.

I don't think you have to go that far — UBO has an option to disable scripts, large media and third party content by default. It breaks a most websites, but at least in this case I have to approve each of these things myself — often it makes cookie consent and other such things pop up, but at least in this case I know what I am in for.
