In terms of software... this version of Ubuntu is as bare-bones as it gets.

You get GIMP 2.4.0 release candidate 3 (so it's not even a stable version), you get Open Office 2.3 (Yes, OpenOffice was the de-facto open source office replacement in the early-mid 2000s before LibreOffice), Rythmbox 0.11 for your MP3s, Firefox 2.0, and the classic crappy desktop games (but not tux racer), aside of the classic software packages like several terminals, gedit 2.20, evolution, Pidgin with support for MSN Messenger and MySpace IM, etc etc.

Naturally you could install more stuff using your package manager... if the repositories were still available
:shrugz: but the repos for this one are long dead afaik. I think 8 can be upgraded.

The kernel is version 2.6.22, vulnerable to every CVE known to man, including spectre and all that stuff. I presume whatever cryptolib is using is also vulnerable to
:heartbleed:

I'm not sure what Ubuntu release this is about, but you can always find old repos at old-releases.ubuntu.com , check it out, it's all there: old-releases.ubuntu.com/ubuntu
Up to Warty Warthog back from 2004. You have to replace the default entries in /etc/apt/sources.list and there you go.
Keys with which the packages are signed, might have expired though and you have to add [Check-Valid-Until=false,trusted=yes] right after "deb" on each of the lines. Should work!
