Imagine writing a whole fucking website just to lay down follow request rules

Exactly! It's not always about feeling important (I think often the opposite is the case TBH), it's about not doing things that are uncomfortable to you. I am paranoid and when I see follow request from someone I have never interacted with and who has very few public posts, it feels suspicious to me. Sometimes I accept such follow request in a month when I see this person communicating with someone else — at least now I know it's a real person 🤷

That's what I did too, but in several cases it was indeed a nice person who have just joined. So now I revisit those from time to time 😅
