You ever notice how the entire web is built on like, 3 or 4 idomatic templates? Most of the time just because that’s how it is, not because that’s how it oughtta be?
I can tell you that my general experience of browsing websites with code blocks is hopping into Stylus to make the content column wider, and then make the code blocks a whole lot wider.
Because there’s nothing that says usability like the content I actually came to see shoved in 500px wide div with “overflow-x: hidden”
My favourite is when the main content has a max-width of under 900px—and hey, don’t get me wrong, for long form text, shorter lines are better—but the container is left aligned, and the fixed social icons overlap the content 🤦♂️
