anyone know of a decent laptop that (relatively) cheap for dual booting linux/win10
@theorytoe HP 840 g3/G4, get the one with the screen protector key (perfect for wagecages or public places with nosy normies)
@theorytoe https://www.ebay.com/itm/275912935971
Here you go it has "the key" to stop normies from staring at your porn collection on Fedi (f2, notice the icon).

Also fhd and thunderbolt.
@theorytoe as for how good these are:
My normie coworkers have abused them by carrying them one handed WHILE OPEN and holding them by the palmrest, one of them looks like a dog took a bite out of the corner of the lcd and still works, and I'm sure they've been dropped a few times by clumsy normies too busy focused on what laptop stickers and shitty normie clothes they want (under armor and hurley, etc.). They still work.

@theorytoe
Any HP ProBook with Haswell CPU or newer should be able to run Win10, I have ProBook 430 G1 that is a decade old and it ran Win10 just fine, I have a MacBook Pro with i7, but even earlier microarch, and it ran Win10 just fine. I have Mac Pro 3,1 — it has Xeon, but it's 15 (!) years old, Core 2 era and it runs Win10 just fine. I don't know what's not good enough to run Win10, a chunk of wood? 🤣
It's same as 7 requirements-wise, stick 16 Gb and SSD into it — should be fine.

@theorytoe Important note: all this hardware is also perfectly usable in Linux, only fingerprint scanner in my ProBook doesn't work — a pity, but not the end of the world, I've read that it works well in other models. In MacBook Pro Late 2011 everything works too — even keyboard backlight, even ambient light sensor! I've even made a script that adjusts backlight according to ambient lighting.
