OK So building custom backports in Debian Stable are fairly straightforward if the package compiles correctly.. it is a similar process to AUR Repo... So yeah you can get newer packages that way as well but of course there backports repo as well on which I heavily depends on.

@safiuddinkhan Except for the few cases when building the package requires newer Debian tools which don't even exist in old release. This was the reason why I gave up using Debian on my PowerPC MacMini: a lot of software has support for building Debian packages, but no tools.
Going with PowerPC port of Void was a better option anyway — it was still maintained at the time.
