so a word like Jesu would be 'Yaysoo'
i was a thing actually, but also theres Δ« which sounded like 'ee' and i was just 'ieh' (not eye, that was reserved for ae)

J is still used that way in several European languages, in Czech, even in German, probably Polish too. In Spanish and related languages, Jesus is Khesoos I think.
They didn't standardize it early on so everyone just made this stuff up π
but hey latin isnt as awful is english
