OTD in 1986 the Soviet authorities reported that absolutely nothing happening in Chernobyl.
It turned out we lied, or infrastructure was too bad to handle the crisis so we lied some more and blamed the West.
Imagine that happening now with a major crisis that was killing large numbers of our citizens...
