I think that is exactly what is going to happen.
I was expecting a major turning point like that by spring, but I was expecting the frontline to collapse earlier than having such obvious signs of failing economy, but okay, we can have them in any order π
Most believe that economy is like that because of war, but actually it's the other way around: the war happened because the economy was collapsing.

@PawelK @useless_idiot Russia's economy is in decline since 2013, but "Crimea effect" somehow justified the lowering standards of living for the masses. It didn't make the news, but COVID was a serious blow too. Putin wanted to pull off this trick again: quick and victorious war. Focus shifted to Ukraine now, but there was an attempted Kazakhstan incursion just a couple of months before that.

I think he was reluctant to do that from the very beginning, but the resistance he got even surpassed his expectations. And of course he didn't expect oil and gas sanctions to be that serious. He got the justification for economic hardships he wanted, but he miscalculated and the war only accelerated the economy spiraling down.
