Y’all have fun with that app thingy I guess. Those 10 year face memes on Twitter were also used to train facial recognition software on aging.

This is why I keep beating the drum about ethical AI training and grinding my teeth as people just go “ooh cool toy” without any thought about how the data might be misused. The AI itself doesn’t care, of course. It’s up to the people to have some consideration from the humans they get data, what data they feed into it, and what tools they use knowing they sourced unethically. Every time I see someone I used to respect post AI art saying “I know this is a thorny issue but it’s so pretty” I lose all respect.

This isn’t me worried machines will replace us, either. I'm just supremely annoyed people have no consideration for where they get their data. Thus why everyone is also having to lock down all their works on archive of our own because it’s getting scraped to train AI as well as, again, they look at it and just see millions of words to plug in.

@Bec Ya-ay! Gulag can be fun if we can make Tik-Toks, right? 😏
I agree with you! I sometimes take pleasure in commenting on AI-generated imagery or text others post, but I've never felt motivated to generate anything using my own input (except for early chat bots decades ago when those weren't based on neural networks). And I've never realized why. But looks like you pinpointed it: I don't want to be a part of it. Even if I do it subconsciously.
