@DotardTed @threalist I think i is inaccurate to say it is a state religion. Russia is not a theocracy regardless of what dugan's political philosophies are. Russians have the freedom to practice whatever religion they wish for the most part, and while the orthodox church is the most popular (comparable to catholicism in a catholic country, where it is the dominant faith, but other religions are practiced in minority groups), russians can be other religions without being persecuted by the orthodox church. the division between the russian and ukrainian churches is unfortunate but so is the whole entire war. On the other hand Russia is welcoming ukrainians who want to become russians and certainly isn't targeting them or their faith

@demitasse @threalist

> Russia is welcoming Ukrainians...

More correctly, Russia is kidnapping Ukrainian children and adopting them into Russian families in order to "Russify" them.

That is, to erase their Ukrainian heritage and replace it with a Russian one...

Not only doing it, but not really hiding it, Russian Child Rights Commissioner Maria Lvova-Belova openly admitted that some children they've brought openly hated Russia and were speaking lowly of president Putin, but then "learned to love Russia" — that is a textbook definition of genocide.
As for grown-ups fleeing Russia, I can't deny that there are those who voluntarily do it, but: nytimes.com/live/2022/07/08/wo
