Can someone help me with some nginx config issues?

Here is the problem: I have a conduit install at mtrx.cheeseland.xyz

cheeseland.xyz has a file that tells any matrix server to federate with mtrx.cheeseland.xyz

The file is stored at .well-known/matrix/server but due to technical issues the file is no longer showing up and certbot complains when it does.
I am trying to serve all .well-known/matrix/ requests to a specific folder in /var/www but for some reason, it is not working. It would be helpful if the logs showed what Nginx was trying to display.

@oklomsy Mine does that — it has to separate logs one for what was successfully served (access_log directive in the config) and another one for errors including files that weren't found (error_log directive in the config). I'm pretty sure there is some setting for verbosity levels of these logs, but I don't see any in my config so I think it should be reported by default in error log that some file wasn't found 🤷
