long bus rides through the whole big city are kind of a surreal experience
it feels like you're nowhere. you're not where you started. you're not there where you aim to get to. you're in the middle of things and there's nothing you can do to make the bus faster or slower

sometimes it feels like you're in an alternate universe while you're in the bus and everything you see through the windows isn't what's real here

I usually get this feeling after an hour of bus riding or so...

@kaede Long bus rides are great! That was my preferred way to read Ulysses by James Joyce: I was buying a bus ticket and went for a long ride, if I got tired from reading, I could just fall asleep and no one cared โ€” it was long time ago, there was no COVID or possibility to get conscripted, and I felt a lot safer in Moscow in general at that time. Waking up in another part of the city does feel surreal, it's the same with trains, but usually can't just go home easily after that ๐Ÿ˜Š

@m0xee I remember I was going to a hospital early in the morning one day years ago and I was falling asleep and waking up again constantly and the seconds I was asleep I dreamed up unreal things that were the continuation of the bus trip itself like my busmates (just made up this word, hehe) turning into monsters or otherworldly landscapes seen through the windows...
