I enrolled in a BA study of Audiovisual Composition, and I need to cram in harmony and music theory in a hurry, as I am pretty limited in that regard, and I also can't attend classes (the price you pay for getting an education while working full time to support a family, I guess...) Right now I'm studying Stone's Music Theory + fast-forwarding a udemy course. What is the quickest way to get to basic conservatory level on those things by myself? #askfedi #musictheory

@kf Michael Hewitt has series of books on music theory: "Music Theory for Computer Musicians", "Harmony for CMs" and "Composition for CMs" — there might be more by now, but I only have these 3.
I already knew the basics when I read them, but I think they are really good and easy to understand, e.g. he uses not only standard music notation, but also piano roll found in most DAWs, guitar tabs, show what chords/scales/modes look like on the keyboard…
I'd recommend these books!
