News: Calls to Replace Jeffries and Schumer Explode After Democratic Win | The New Republic

Calls for Representative Hakeem Jeffries and Senator Chuck Schumer to step down from their leadership positions are growing... coming from inside and outside of Congress—cite a lack of vision, an unwillingness to go after Trump, the continued acceptance of corporate PAC money, and an extreme deference to the Israeli government.

Of all the things that 4 years in #psychoanalysis taught me, the most valuable one was to embrace otherness. Not simply to tolerate it, but to welcome it, to invite it in, to be inspired and excited by it. To allow the other to be entirely other. Not to try to find commonalities, or imagine it less alien to me.
No. To love it for its difference. It's impossible difference. To recognize that of all the things life has to offer, this differentness is by far the richest experience of all. /1

Jessica Killin will be the first woman, first Democrat, and first pro-choice Representative from Colorado Springs since Focus on the Family was founded there in 1977.

Just in time for their 50th anniversary!! 😇🫢

#ScottColom was to be nominated #Federal #Judge in 2022. He was blocked. By #Mississippi #Republican #Senator #CindyHydeSmith. Her reason: #Colom allegedly supported #trans students in girls' and women's #sports

So he ran for Senator

If he wins, he will be the first #Black Senator from Mississippi since #Reconstruction (1875!). #MS is 37% black, highest % of black residents of any #USA state

Now look at this #vote tally so far

And tell me your vote doesn't matter

Aaron Swartz was a digital rights champion who believed in the need for an open internet.
His life was cut short in 2013,
after federal prosecutors charged him under the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act (CFAA) for systematically downloading academic journal articles from the online database JSTOR.

Facing the prospect of a long and unjust sentence, Aaron died by suicide at the age of 26.
Join us to celebrate the legacy of Aaron Swartzon Nov. 8, 2026.

With the organizers of Aaron Swartz Day, we’re honoring his life with an in-person and remote hackathon.
This event is supported by several organizations that carry on his work, including the Internet Archive
—which is hosting the in-person event
—the Freedom of the Press Foundation, Creative Commons and the Free Law Project.

I really had to control myself to not derail this post by saying, "Just make sure to keep the Tribbles out of it." mastodon.nz/@craftygardennz/11

I've recently been reading about the rediscovery of the ancient grain, grano del miracolo, aka the wheat Triticum turgidum. The flour from this ancient grain is lower in gluten, and higher in iron and phosphorous and essential amino acids. Apparently it gives bread a nutty and sweet flavor, I would love to try it one day...

Elon Musk’s election spending is a tiny fraction of his net worth. For scale, it’s as if a person with a net worth of $1M dropped $633.71 on candidates. I’ve spent way more!

We must neutralize Musk. Deport him, arrest him, seize his assets—something must give!

To me, the fundamental value proposition of genAI is becoming more clear every day: it’s grand theft of human labor, resold as a generic pink goo, extruded by a handful of venture-backed companies, at the expense of our environment and cognitive health.

We need a better name for this phenomenon. Here are some suggestions: #GrandTheftAutocomplete #LargeTheftModel

“Why does AI feel like theft?”

Aside - Cubic (a US multinational corporation, I believe) was awarded this contract despite NZ have at least 3 very experienced local transit ticketing companies who've been grafting for decades. Rather than establishing an 'open standard' for pubtrans ticketing & creating a marketplace where the user wins, gov't killed the local players & awarded a monopoly to a foreign corporation. The gov't decision-makers are not worthy of their roles.

Dear people making websites:
I get that having a site that creates itself as you scroll the page may look neat, but having a site that prevents a user from using [Cmd] - [F] to FIND A THING on the page is...
I can think of stronger words, but I suppose I'll use:
rude.

You could do worse than Jon Ossoff for majority leader.

I’d take Chris Murphy too.

Schummer and Jeffries are going to find themselves out to pasture if they keep this talk of "moving on." I want AOC-style level of investigation. I want Ted Lieu running investigations. I want committees and subcommittees pushing to investigate every single one of those basterds.

News: Jon Stewart Calls for Chuck Schumer Ouster After Blue Wave: ‘Bulls–t System and It Needs to Go’ | The Wrap

Jon Stewart is urging Democrats to remove Chuck Schumer and other senior leaders to make way for new voices ...one of the first things Democrats should do following their wins on Election Night is remove much of the party's senior leadership and start fresh. That starts with Schumer, who... does not deserve as much credit as he's been seeing for the wins.

It’s cool because our society is investing more real resources into LLMs than it did in going to the actual moon in the sky in order to transform our shared global body of information into an untrustworthy pile of shit.
