Even more #ads are coming to #Google #search, Google says - https://mashable.com/tech/more-ads-are-coming-to-google-search-ai-mode I'm sure that will drive lots of traffic...
So here’s the thing. My entire life is on Proton: email, calendar, documents, VPN, all my passwords, all my ID, all my important data.
My annual subscription is up at the end of January.
If they don’t oust Andy Yen by then, I’m out. The question is where?
Infomaniak seems to offer most of what Proton does but they also use AI.
What other options are there? I’m seeing people suggesting email alternatives. But I need a whole lot more than that.
I love it when Europeans tell me how at least there's no ICE here, while the train app alerts me that there will be armed men on the train racially profiling passengers
@Tutanota "The goal of Tuta is to bring privacy to everyone and for that the Tuta apps must become much more feature-rich and competitive with Big Tech equivalents (eg Gmail)."
Like, what? The one thing I might miss, is a "drive" like thingie.
We do not flee big tech alternatives because we want what they offer us. We flee, because the reason we originally picked them, vanished long time ago, but by that time we were so tied to their services, it was just too much work to leave.
Eventually, they became so greedy and evil, we said "f*** it, we'll deal with the pain, we leave"
You don't compete with them by becoming them. You compete by not being like them.
@Tutanota We developers have a tool for automating repetitive processes. It is called "writing code".
If a developers workflow seems repetitive, it is generally because it involves slight variations that we need to consider every time.
If your developers struggle with repetitive tasks that do not have such variations, and can not easily be automated, you might be in a situation where you feel AI could be helpful.
The correct solution isn't AI, what you need to do is find a better tool.
Speaking as a senior software dev with decades of experience, there is no way AI could make me work faster, without compromising quality.
Me and my partner both have active Tuta subscriptions. We'll keep them for now, because the alternatives are not plentiful, and AI-embrace elsewhere is far past what you describe here.
But please, read the room
Think of why people fled to your services..
You stand to gain very little, if anything.
You risk loosing everything.
who knew that in order to exploit the vast market segment of people who despise AI, you had to actually not use AI? and who knew people would be very angry if you lied about your organization being against AI? who knew telling those people to fuck off would cause them to cancel their donations and tell all their friends to not use your shit?

In July 2024, I reported that Coinbase appeared to be violating campaign finance law by making contributions while holding federal contracts. I filed an FEC complaint alongside Public Citizen. The FEC hasn’t acted. Since, Coinbase has given $60M more and landed another federal contract.

Due to the media blackout, even I didn't know until just now that Pussy Riot, the Russian female anti-Putin protestors, have been taking part in anti-ICE demonstrations in the US since last year. They just recently protested alongside US activists at 7 different concentration camp locations.
Especially since all roads lead to #Putin, I love to see this kind of international solidarity.
The Financial Times report Anthropic’s IPO is now likely to receive a Junk credit rating, according to the anchor investor in the deal.
Anthropic, Blackstone, KBRA, Morningstar DBRS and S&P declined to comment. Fitch and Moody’s did not respond to requests for comment.

In theory, contractors are legally barred from political giving because that smacks of bribery. In practice, Musk gets a 2,200 percent return on his investment.
Felon Trump is the first president to call for America to be attacked. And cowardly Republicans said nothing. We need everyone to go vote.
Read every word of this excellent analysis of the NYT’s irresponsible coverage of the current election. https://www.findinggravity.net/the-new-york-times-invents-a-democratic-scandal-while-ignoring-a-new-trump-rape-allegation/
@foser explains it all for you.
It is genuinely nice to see the tech bros and billionaires getting all worried about security all of a sudden. I’ve been trying to keep my users safe for years, and it is seldom easy.
Shai-Hulud was and is a much bigger problem than most of what has happened in October (except that crypto shit. That shit is huge, but when you fuck around with grifters I don’t know what y’all were expecting).
Php2shell was scary, yes, but more than 300GB of creds have been stolen via supply-chain attacks.
Can personal or proprietary information shared in an AI chatbot end up inside an LLM, where anyone might coax it out? The answer is...
