If any local politician, library, park, or museum asks you why they should be on the Fediverse..

How the heck is a girl supposed to write a creepy SF micro fiction when these goobers keep just literally doing the thing that I wanted to be ominous and portend dark futures about???

Last week, #Palantir just forced Sadiq Khan to back down after the London Mayor tried to block the US spytech giant's contract with the Met Police.

Khan dared to say public money should go to companies that share London's values, and Palantir hauled him to the High Court. And after that, Khan's office released a statement praising the company - and Palantir is back in the running for the £50 million Met Police contract.

My question is ...

If Palantir can force the Mayor of London to back down, what will it do to ministers deciding the future of our NHS data?

Ask HN: How to deal with shipping AI-written code you don't understand?

This will sound crazy, but perhaps don't do that? You don't have to ship a pile of stinking slop.

Practice saying no. Then say no to "AI".

"it's easy to criticise" hell yeah it is. that's why I do it. the effort to dopamine ratio is off the charts. you'd know that if you weren't a fucking idiot who sucks at everything

Morning thought: Having a big head and a pea brain is a pretty unfortunate combination.

This _entire_ thread is worth your time. @MaddieM4 nails the often completely avoided emotional and moral concerns with putting a thing out into the world. She doesn't use the phrase but I would politely suggest this thread is about _craftsmanship_. It's about understanding the need that you're serving and the fit of the thing you're making to serve the need.

Serving our fellows is one of the _highest_ callings a person can have. Maddie may be inadvertently defining _Software As Service_.

The entire piece is well worth your time
