I'd love to see the (very broken) debate about "digital sovereignty" shaped by this: away from national sovereignty towards community sovereignty. To be more specific: Less powers for police forces and more democratic, non-profit government of infrastructure.
For those of us expecting a AI-related crash, each dip looks like it could be the first moment in such a crash even as stock markets have repeatedly 'bought the dips' & reversed the drops.
So, I note that overnight Asian stock markets have lost around 5% on semi-conductor related stocks, following losses in the USA later yesterday.
Whether this is another wobble or really the cliff edge many of us expect will be clearer in the next few days; keep an eye out.

jesus christ, Linux has had a 100% LLM takeover.
this project is completely cooked.
even after the AI bubble pop, it's not clear how to recover from this level of bullshit from this level of bullshitter.

> Linus Torvalds believes that blaming LLMs for the kernel community's problems is wrong, when the problem is LLM users who do not understand how to use them or how the kernel works. A properly trained LLM is a useful tool, but it takes a lot of time to reach that point.
> Torvalds and others repeatedly said low-quality contributions from new developers should receive low priority, and that the community should stop trying to make contribution easy. Many developers said, repeatedly, that trying to mentor those developers is almost always a waste of time; they do not listen.
> There is some concern about companies maintaining private kernels with LLM help, but there does not seem to be much to be done about it.
> Kernel developers should not be required to use LLMs to work in the community, but those who do need to have enough resources available to generate acceptable results.
The requirement to add Assisted-by tags to patches created with LLMs will be removed, but maintainers still want to know about how a patch was created.
so how's it going already?
> The development community is struggling to keep up with the flood of security patches, and will continue to for some time. Some of the most urgent fixes may bypass maintainers and go straight to Torvalds. Maintainers were cautioned against telling their employers about vulnerabilities before public disclosure happens.
# Amsterdam server seized at request of U.S. authorities after antifa allegations
"Police in Amsterdam seized a server from a data center in the city’s eastern district on Tuesday, following a request from U.S. authorities. The police confirmed the seizure after it was reported by the NRC.
The seized server belongs to Italian internet provider Autistici/Inventati (A/I). Dutch police are creating a digital image of its data to hand over to U.S. authorities, as required under the American request for legal assistance.
For years, A/I offered free website hosting and email services to thousands of organizations. It attracted the attention of the Trump administration, which regards antifa as a terrorist organization. In late August, U.S. authorities also labeled A/I a terrorist organization, alleging that it had supported antifa. NRC described the move as exceptional, noting that internet service providers are not usually held liable for what their users do.
U.S. sanctions left A/I unable to access its bank account and cost it its domain name. The organization's volunteers then decided to disband it to protect users and donors from potential repercussions linked to their association with A/I. According to NRC, the seizure of a server in Amsterdam suggests those concerns may have been justified.
Police have not disclosed which specific data will be transferred to U.S. authorities. The server will be returned to the data center once the process is complete."

I'm using that one as well, Read Aloud (LibreWolf, but I guess it does the same in FF). First I was puzzled, but it makes so much sense.

One of the projects I have been working on with the Rocky Mountain Farmers Union (#rmfu), led by @GeorgeCheney
This webinar should be useful to people hoping to understand ways to resist the loss of farm land to development and create opportunities for new farmers, land back, etc.

outrageous bullying and interference
Everybody has to coordinate with Starlink because SPACEX CONTROLS ORBIT. That's against the Outer Space Treaty.
Your engineering challenge, SpaceX, is to provide your services with fewer satellites. Not yell at everyone else for having satellites too.
This decision is a stinging defeat for Trump’s assault on the free press and a powerful vindication of the First Amendment.
As Judge Kelly recognized, presidents don’t get to use their power to purge journalists because they don’t like what they report.

To explain what I mean by this: for a long time the Perl community took great pride in how difficult and terse the language was. The old joke that well-written perl was indistinguishable from line noise wasn't just a joke, it was a badge of honour.
That attitude was sustainable when the internet was small and alternatives were scarce. But the moment tools appeared that prioritized things like human ergonomics (python) and human interaction (ruby) the perl community started aging out and dying.
this is the one and only reason that the Linux kernel is going out of its way to hide which commits are LLM generated by abolishing the Assisted-By tag, simultaneously with torvalds fully slopcoding a core “improvement” to the kernel’s memory management
if you don’t believe me, here’s part of what the diff removed from the kernel’s docs:
> -When AI tools contribute to kernel development, proper attribution
> -helps track the evolving role of AI in the development process.
> -Contributions should include an Assisted-by tag in the following format::
and surprise, here’s the dickheads responsible: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linux_Kernel_Developers_Summit a set of people who get money and tokens from Anthropic, OpenAI, and a bunch of other AI corps via the Linux Foundation
don’t you love when the paid heads of a community project meet behind closed doors to do something that damages the community? https://furs.social/@Rycochet/117438960055913573
