Shokunin Studio: Attack of the Vibe Coded Clones - on all the hugely publicised bad and broken vibe-clones of Photoshop

shokunin.studio/blog/2026/10/9

I've warned before that any FOSS project incorporating AI output is doing so at their peril.

Previously people leaned on a federal circuit ruling that was *declined to be taken up by the supreme court* interpreting it as a free-for-all to LLM license-wash any project in translation, or really to incorporate any such materials and they would be public domain.

But that doesn't mean we have an answer! We've yet to see!

Annnnnnnnnd: I think we're likely to have that perspective upended soon.

The third circuit issued a recent ruling in the *opposite direction* of the previously well cited federal ruling, that AI training on copyrighted material is NOT fair use: courthousenews.com/ai-training

Annnnndddddd.... with a bunch of people trying to make LLM-generated decompilation replacements for Adobe's entire suite, we're likely to suddenly see corporations rear up angrily.

Just wait till someone tries to vibewash a Nintendo game decompilation. Hey, what do you think is gonna happen?

Let it be known: you do not have permission to ignore the attribution clauses from any of my freely licensed work, including when ingesting into a model whose default operation is to strip attribution

And I will note that CC BY / CC BY-SA / Apache v2 / GPLv3 all have attribution requirements

RE: social.coop/@cwebber/117406652

This. I have not even once gotten a response from an AI bro when I brought this up.

One of the trade-offs with publishing FOSS software is that your work gets attributed. If you don’t do that, you don’t use my work according to the terms I have published them.

And the. They look at me weird when I call it theft.

3. Okay, so what would convince you that a piece of software (often phrased here as "an AI", gah) is conscious/can feel pain/etc?

Honestly, I'm really tired of this extremely silly question, but here is my answer:

Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence, and I am not the one making the extraordinary claim, so it is not my job to specify what the evidence should be.

@aeva @theogrin @benedictc @emilymbender one of their favourite rebuttals to even the most mild of skepticism is "enjoy being part of the permanent underclass" which confirms that any amount of interaction with these bootlickers is a fool's errand

In other words, it is the job of scientists to devise experiments that can test their claims, to always be cautious about what they are claiming, and to critically evaluate the claims of other scientists. By these well-established standards, no serious science is happening behind Anthropic's claims.

I heard the “AI is just a tool” line again today.

#AI is not “just a tool”.

It’s not even a “tool”.

It sure is *something*. But it’s not a tool.

“There's little that's "inevitable" about AI | deadSimpleTech”

Two papers I came across today:

People are just copy-pasting agents.md all over the place instead of using links or versioned copies or anything: arxiv.org/abs/2610.11169

Does using agent files actually work? No. arxiv.org/pdf/2602.11988

This is not a serious field.

Ordered a new laptop battery from IFixIt. It was below spec out of the box and after calibration. I told them and provided backing data. They said, Sorry! We're sending you a replacement! No need to return the one we sent; just dispose of it carefully.

Now you know why I trust IFixIt.

I think people are overreaching a bit when they declare that if it runs on a computer, it can't be conscious.

Look, I don't think *Claude* is conscious. I think Anthropic is probably Doing a Marketing, or full of AI cultists, or both.

Maybe I'm being too pedantic here. But at some point we're going to have powerful enough hardware (and a good enough understanding of neurobiology) that you could simulate a human brain. At that point, that's conscious software. There are some truly heinous things that could happen at that point and I think it's at best silly to pretend otherwise.

Let's not allow the present stupid dystopia to cloud our much more fucked up dystopian imaginings.

Hello. I’m looking for a Canadian audiobook narrator. Voice should sound masculine and 40-ish. Specific accent is Alberta. Ideally able to do other accents as well, including Northern Irish. But the key one is Alberta. And the text will be riddled with Canadianisms and Canadian place names.

Recommendations?

When I tried Chewy instead, I got an email saying "contact us to receive your order". I did, and they verified a bunch of info on the order, and said it should go through soon.

Probably the "brand new account orders $250 of stuff" (along with my usual privacy measures) tripped fraud detection. But at least there was a path forward to resolve it.

I just had Petsmart cancel an online order, and when I called customer service, their explanation was that my "email address was created too recently".

...there are a lot of possible explanations for that, but none of them are good.

I'm shopping elsewhere, creeps.
